The New Mexico Junior Academy of Science promotes student research with a science research paper competition and oral PowerPoint presentation. The Junior Academy is a program of the New Mexico Academy of Science. Students must complete research but are not required to participate in Science Fair. The competitions are held in early Spring at the same time as Regional and State Science and Engineering Fairs. Winners of the Junior Academy regional competitions across the state of New Mexico qualify for the state competition. Monetary prizes are awarded at regional and state levels and NMAS publishes the abstracts of the state winners in its annual New Mexico Journal of Science. State winners are eligible to attend a national meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
